Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA)

The Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) is established by the Government of Maharashtra, Department of Higher and Technical Education as a Section 8 Company under the Companies Act, 2013. It is the first such state-led initiative in India exclusively dedicated to enhancing the professional competencies of educators in higher education. MSFDA’s establishment aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes continuous faculty development, innovation in pedagogy, and student-centric teaching models.

MSFDA operates under the strategic guidance of its Board of Directors, chaired by the Chief Secretary of the Government of Maharashtra, and includes secretaries from key departments such as Higher and Technical Education, Planning, and School Education, along with the Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Director, Directorate of Technical Education,Hon. Vice Chancellors and eminent academicians. This governance framework ensures alignment with the state’s broader vision and policies.

Vision and Philosophy

MSFDA envisions creating a ecosystem of high-quality Higher education faculty by training them from across Maharashtra. The academy emphasizes pedagogical innovation, encouraging faculty to adopt interdisciplinary and experiential teaching methods. By fostering a culture of inquiry and critical thinking, MSFDA seeks to empower educators to become catalysts for societal change.

MSFDA Centers

To streamline its operations and focus areas, MSFDA has established six dedicated centers, each contributing to holistic faculty development:

1. Centre for Multidisciplinary Curriculum and Pedagogy

This center promotes interdisciplinary teaching methodologies and experiential learning strategies. It equips faculty to design contextually relevant and learner-centric curricula that reflect NEP 2020 values. Programs under this center include pedagogical innovations, hands-on teaching methods, and training in creative, IT-integrated classroom practices.

2. Centre for Innovation and Cutting-Edge Technology

With a focus on integrating research, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies, this center builds faculty capacity in digital tools, data literacy, and innovation ecosystems. It supports hands-on training in frontier technologies and works to embed skill-based and industry-aligned practices into higher education.

3. Centre for Inclusion and Diversity

This center aims to sensitize educators to diverse student needs, covering areas such as gender equity, socio-economic inclusion, disability awareness, and linguistic diversity. The goal is to build inclusive learning spaces and promote equitable access across all sections of society.

4. Centre for Leadership Development

This center develops institutional leaders—heads of departments, deans, and principals—through structured leadership training, governance models, and change management strategies. It supports faculty in assuming leadership roles aligned with NEP 2020 and building collaborative academic environments.

5. Centre for Evaluation and Assessment

Focused on modernizing assessment practices, this center enhances institutional capacity to conduct learner-centered, outcome-based evaluations. It trains faculty in designing rubrics, using digital assessment tools, and conducting formative and summative assessments rooted in higher-order thinking skills.

6. Centre for Resources

Acting as a resource and knowledge hub, this center maintains a curated repository of academic content including research papers, policy briefs, teaching tools, and recorded lectures. It offers both physical and digital access to resources that support continuous professional development and academic excellence.

The MSFDA campus is, located at Bhamburda, Bahirat Patil Chowk, Shivajinagar, Pune. The facility is equipped with all essential amenities such as classrooms, a conference hall, residential accommodation, computer labs, and hygenic food facility, all housed within the same campus. This integrated setup enables the creation of a conducive, immersive, and fully-supported training environment for faculty development.
